    Prudential is becoming
    M&G Investments

    Watch the Video

Our CEO Bernard Fick explains the transition.

We are very pleased to announce that we are further strengthening our historic ties with our global parent, M&G Investments (M&G). As of 9 July 2021, Prudential Investment Managers has become a subsidiary of M&G, and we will be changing our identity to M&G Investments before the end of 2021.

As a result, our clients will benefit to an even greater extent from our closer integration with M&G's large international team of investment experts, global best-practice, and expanded access to the latest global investment ideas and technology, among many other advantages.

The changes will have no impact on the way Prudential's unit trust funds or institutional mandates are managed. Our local investment team and management structure remain unchanged, as do our consistent, valuation-based investment approach and process.

    Brief background

Following London-listed M&G's strategic decision in 2019 to expand its global investment management presence, it was a logical step forward for them to seek closer ties with Prudential Southern Africa. They have now added Southern Africa to their existing centres of investment expertise based in London, Paris, Singapore and Chicago.

M&G and Prudential share a similar fundamental and valuation-based active investment process. In fact, our close collaboration, specifically in areas like global asset allocation, has already benefitted our clients for many years.

    Our New Ownership Structure

We are 50.12% owned (indirectly) by M&G plc. Another 28.08% is held by the Prudential Staff Investment Company and 21.80% by Thesele Group, our black empowerment partner.

M&G plc is the parent company of M&G Investments, which was previously part of Prudential plc. M&G Investments was established in 1901 and grew into one of Europe’s largest active asset managers. M&G plc still manages funds on behalf of Prudential plc under the banner of M&G Investments.

    What will be changing?

Our name change to M&G Investments will involve:

    • Changing our company names throughout the Prudential Southern Africa group, including subsidiaries in Namibia. For example, our main investment management company, Prudential Investment Managers (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd, is being renamed MandG Investment Managers (Pty) Ltd.
    • Changing the names of all our institutional investment capabilities. For example, the "Prudential Core Equity" institutional proposition will change to 'M&G Core Equity'.
    • Renaming our South Africa- and Irish-domiciled unit trust funds to M&G; i.e. the "Prudential Balanced Fund" will become the 'M&G Balanced Fund'. See the full range of proposed unit trust name changes in our detailed Q&A.
    • Changing our website and email domains, from prudential.co.za to mandg.co.za (in South Africa) and from prudential.com.na to mandg.com.na (in Namibia).
    • Replacing Prudential's logo featuring the face of 'Lady Prudence' with the M&G Investments logo.

Going more global to benefit our clients

Our goal going forward is to further enhance our clients’ investment outcomes through the addition of more of M&G’s global expertise across different capabilities. Successful investing these days requires a global perspective and deep international experience to deliver outperformance.

Our clients will benefit from global best investment ideas and solutions that have proven to be successful, including those that may not have previously been accessible to South Africans, plus cutting-edge, technology-driven solutions. Examples span areas as diverse as:
